Apple to launch its iOS15 and iPad OS 15 this fall

Apple's next major operating system update was announced at the company's virtual Worldwide Developers Conference earlier in June 2021. Following the iPad line-up over the years we can imply that although they have maintained an impressive pace in the hardware innovations, the development of its software has been relatively slow. Apple has always had a unique position in the industry to determine what kinds of paradigms are established as standard. This year’s launch of the iOS 15 and iPad OS 15 is designed with new and improved features.

I. Facetime updates- the new features mainly include spatial audio, voice isolation, portrait mode, and facetime links.

II. Multitasking- the goal of the company while introducing this feature was to make people consider that multitasking can also be an option. The feature enables its users to have quick access to the home screen using split view, making it easier to use the right app. They can also multitask with apps that have multiple windows like Safari.

III. A new Home Screen- designed with integrated widgets, the app library that offers simple ways to personalize the iPad experience and organize apps.

IV. Quick-note- enables making notes systemwide and also offers new ways to collaborate and organize whether typing or writing with an Apple pencil. Users can use this feature anywhere to jot down any thought, add links, providing an easy way for them to get back exactly what they were looking at. It dismisses the old-school way of copy-pasting or taking screenshots.

V. Share play- allows users to connect with friends on facetime, including listening to songs together with Apple Music, watching a TV show or movie from Apple TV+ and other streaming services in sync, or sharing their screen to view apps together.

VI. A redesigned Safari experience- that appears with a new tab design that lets users see more of the page as they browse. A new tab bar takes on the color of the webpage and combines tabs, the toolbar, and the search field into a single, compact design. These tab Groups offer a new way to easily save and manage tabs.

VII. Keyboard shortcuts- The Company announced during their conference this year that one of their key goals was to make everything in the system navigable from the keyboard. The introduction of an external keyboard allows users to quickly set up and switch between Split View and Slide Over.

VIII. Introduction of the Center Window- The feature enables apps like mail, notes, and messages to allow their contents to pop out into an overlapping window. This feature was not available in the previous apple models.

  1. Universal Control- the feature uses Bluetooth and lets users work with a single mouse and keyboard to move between iPad and Mac, with no setup required. Users can even drag and drop content back and forth between devices.

X. New tools to find focus- Focus is a new feature that filters notifications based on what a user is doing. The feature enables its users to help them be in the moment by creating a customer focus or selecting suggested ones based on their context.

XI. On-device intelligence- the feature enables to recognize of texts in a photo and takes action accordingly.

XII. Translate app- this feature makes translations easier. It auto-translates when someone is speaking and also in which language. Face-to-face view also allows two people to sit across from each other with an iPad between them and see translations of the conversation from their side.

XIII. Building apps with swift playgrounds- is the easiest and the best way to learn to code. This feature provides users with the tools to build iPhone and iPad apps right on their iPad and later submit them directly to the App Store, offering new ways for anyone to create apps and share them with the world.

  1. Shared with you- this feature enables the system to find articles, music, TV shows, photos, and more that are shared in messages conversations and then surfaces them in apps like Photos, Safari, Apple News, Music, Podcasts, and the Apple TV app.

  2. Maps- this feature basically will provide the users a detailed knowledge about neighborhoods, commercial districts, elevation, and buildings, new road colors, and labels, custom-designed landmarks. It is even equipped with a new night-time mode with a moonlit glow.

  3. Privacy- privacy options are enhanced using new protections, transparency features, and controls.

With all these features that have been announced the new operating system is currently available for the developers to test and the final version of the OS is likely to launch during the fall this year, as said by Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Now the million-dollar question that arises is that whether all these updates will be able to turn people’s perception about the working of the iPad that was earlier held by its lack of software updates?? This can only be answered after the OS launches in the fall this year, but looking at all the enhancements they have made or introduced it is particularly giving a good sign in general.
